Celebrity chef Mark Jensen’s life has taken a new twist with the opening of The Cut Barbershop and Gentleman’s Collective at the rear of his celebrated Red Lantern on Riley restaurant. For over 20 years Mark has made a career out of food: opening acclaimed restaurants, appearing on television shows like Ready Steady Cook and Masterchef and authoring cookbooks but always moving forward and always wanting to evolve. Now he has decided the times suit a 180-degree evolution, back to his first calling. Not many of his peers in the industry would know that way before he was a renowned chef, he originally qualified as a hairdresser and worked in several top Sydney salons in the early 90’s.
Seeing an opportunity to expand and reimagine the rear-lane area that once housed the Red Lily bar, Mark had a vision of a classic gentleman’s barber shop, able to attend to your every need, yet still connected to Red Lantern. That might just be the traditional shave and a haircut, a refreshing craft ale, a selection of rare vinyl or a curated selection of hard-wearing menswear but all of it set in a welcoming, warm space that immediately puts you at your ease. The Cut Barbershop and Gentleman’s Collective is the culmination of that unique vision.
At The Cut Barbershop (TCB) you’ll find everything you’d expect from someone as thoughtful as Mark, and some you might not. Precision haircuts, classic barbering, and shaves along with all the products needed to maintain your mane. Check. Local craft beers and a selection of cocktails to make your mouth water while shooting the breeze or maybe throwing a few darts at the board. Of course. Vintage-inspired military workwear from around the world that evokes a time when men and their clothes had a job to do. Double check. TCB has you covered.
Open Friday and Saturday from 11-5, book online or just stop by The Cut Barbershop at Crown Lane Darlinghurst and see what Mark’s latest evolution looks, sounds, and feels like.
